Kaya
It has been a great start to the year, and I am finding out from the students, staff and parents the Richmond way. It has been great to visit the classrooms, see the great programs in place, and have the students share their work with me.
The Student Leaders will be conducting the online assemblies each fortnight with students receiving merit certificates.
One of our students, Saige was involved in an accident on her scooter riding home yesterday and was incredibly brave whilst being treated. The accident highlighted the importance of wearing helmets. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Massimo, Isla, Amberlie and Maya for supporting Saige when the accident occurred. It really demonstrated great leadership. Saige will back on deck in the next few days and we really wish her a speedy recovery.
COVID Update
I also appreciate the compliance by the community to all the Directives in response to the looming COVID outbreaks. Extra staff have been placed on duty to cater for the new eating areas, which have been well received by students. The staff have been working on developing resources and communications will be sent out at the earliest possible time in line with the Department’s guidelines. It is important that contact details including mobile numbers and emails are updated if they have changed as SMS and CONNECT are critical to communicating to parents. If a family reports that a student at our school has a positive RAT, please ask them to go directly to get a PCR. The Health Department will only act on a positive PCR at this stage.
I have also attached some information from the Department’s around school-based close contacts.

Air Conditioners
With the heat and humidity, it has become evident that we need to have a replacement plan in place to replace the older inefficient units. All the units are currently working and will be serviced via the breakdown program.
In the interim we will work with staff and potentially use other cooler areas of the school for short respite if required. We will also commence looking at a long-term solution and the associated costs with the costing determining the timeline.
School Board
The School Board met via ZOOM on Monday, and it was great to see that all positions were filled for the year. The Board and the P&C are important committees within the school and represent the wider views of the community. Lacey Filipich has taken the role of Board Chair for 2022 and brings a great deal of experience to the position.
