Message from Mr Mackesey
I had the pleasure of visiting Rm 8 to take a look at the Year 2 HASS Museum. A lovely reminder of the past in the present was on display. The scary aspect is that I can still remember some of the technology being cutting edge!
Exhibit A.
Cross Country
Our Cross-Country event for students in years 3 – 6 has been rescheduled for Tuesday 21 June. There is no need to complete a new permission slip if your child has returned one already. Permission slips are accessible from Letters and Forms – Richmond Primary School (richmondps.wa.edu.au)
Lightning Carnival/Eagles Cup
Our inter-school winter sports carnival (Netball, AFL and Soccer) for years 5 and 6 students has been rescheduled for Wednesday 29 June.
There is no need to complete a new permission slip if your child has returned one already.
Please note: There are a significant number of outstanding permission and payment slips for this event. Students who haven’t returned their form were handed one yesterday. Quite a few students no longer have credit on their accounts and we weren’t able to deduct payment. We will advise you next week if a payment is still owing.
Message from Mr Thorogood – Re: Marathon Running Club
No Marathon Running Club on Tuesday 21 June due to our rescheduled Cross-Country Event.
Parent Library List
As we get back to the new normal, we are keen to kick start the Parent Library to utilise the expertise within our community. We would love to have parents or community members volunteer some time to speak on a topic that will add value to the teaching program. It is great modelling and an opportunity to observe some of the complexities of the classroom.
Sian Rosser ( sianrosser22@gmail.com) is championing the Parent Library as part of her role on the School Board and can be contacted for further information at the above email address.
STEM is also will be a priority area in the future and we are looking for interested parents to support the learning program with planned sessions next term.
Silvia Piviali ( silvia79@tpg.com.au ) is coordinating the program and we are looking for any marine science parents please as we seem to have other areas covered being physical/ biological/ environment/ chemical and the medical science.
If you would like further information drop Sian, Silvia or myself an email or catch me when you see me in the playground.
Holiday Absentees
We appreciate that the upcoming holidays are a chance to travel and see family after a long period of not having face to face contact. We are obliged to follow Education Department Guidelines. Parents need to email the school prior to taking students out of school early and will receive a standardised letter from the Department of Education in return.
Winter Bugs and Illnesses
COVID cases are still lingering in the school community and have been joined by the usual winter bugs. Today we have 45 students absent due to ill health, many with gastro like symptoms. We regularly remind students of the importance of washing their hands, the use and disposal of tissues and coughing and sneezing hygiene. Please could you reinforce this with your child/children at home. We still have RATS available for families who haven’t yet collected their packs.
Congratulations
Scholarship
Congratulations to Laurence Mitchell who has put in the hard work coupled with undoubted talent and has been awarded the Brother Patrick Kelly Music Scholarship at CBC Fremantle.
Chess Competition
On Sunday 12th June, students from Richmond competed in the WA Schools Chess League Southern Zonal Tournament. The students are part of Richmond’s weekly Chess Club on Tuesdays and were eager to test their chess skills against students from other schools south of the river. Richmond finished in 9th place out of a total of 24 schools. Well done boys!
Message from the DORKS
The Dads and Kids Bike Ride is on Saturday 25 June at 3pm!
It’s a great opportunity for Dads to get out and about with the kids and then also catch up with the rest of the family afterwards. The ride is all on paved paths and cycleways and should be suitable for all kids who can ride a bike.
This is a free event but please register on TidyHQ for a ticket, so that we have a record of numbers attending. Please click here for the link.
