It was fantastic to finally welcome the new Kindy parents to the Richmond School Community, which is a sign of the times we are living in. Thanks to the staff and Sam from the P&C and Peter who represented the School Board. The key message we wanted to share was that the school has always been the hub of the community and parents get involved in many ways that support the school. Volunteering is rewarding and not just rattling the tins and organising fundraising, it a great way to model to your children the importance of giving back to the community.
From putting your name down for parent rosters, Class Reps or supporting the P&C, all are great ways to meet families within the community. Our Dad’s and father figure group, the DoRKS work in conjunction with The Fathering Project in supporting our families.
National Walk to School Day – 20 May
National Walk Safely to School Day is tomorrow 20th May. Some of the objectives of the day is to encourage parents and carers to walk regularly with their children, all or part of the way to school. To promote the health benefits of walking and create regular walking habits and help children develop vital road crossing skills.
We would love to you see everyone walking to school tomorrow!
School Board
The School Board also met on Tuesday and are planning to survey the community later in the term. The survey will guide the development of the next Business Plan, which will shape the direction of the school in line with the Education Departments Strategic Directions. The Board play a pivotal role in the school review process and offer feedback in several strategic initiatives. Information about the work of the School Board will be shared with the community over the next few weeks.
Busy Bee
On Friday the 20th the P&C have organised a Busy Bee commencing after school to tidy up the Kitchen Garden and surrounding garden beds. The focus is to come together as a community, pitch in for a short time and enjoy a sausage in a bun and a beverage of your choice.
Relief garden crew
About volunteering, it has been great to see our Student Leaders pitching in raking leaves with the absence of our School Gardener. I was thinking of getting them to my house for a Busy Bee around my back jungle!
RAT Distribution
With between 10 to 15% of the student population absent due to COVID and also the regular flu we realise that not all families have picked up their allocation of RAT’s. They will be available from the front office for collection by parents. We are not permitted to send them home with students.
NAPLAN
The timeframe for catching up NAPLAN testing has been extended until Friday 27th May. Mr Carder has been doing a mighty job administering the tests, which has been problematic. At a system level there has been discussion about testing through this difficult time and comparing schools. We will still use the NAPLAN data as well as other systemic tests to inform whole school planning and look for trends for next year.
