7 April 2022

Kaya All,

We are moving into the season of Djeran where the cooler weather begins (hopefully) with the colours of Autumn. I must admit it is a welcome relief after an exceedingly long hot period.

I have enjoyed my first term at Richmond, even with the challenges that we have faced with COVID restrictions. It has been disappointing that we were unable to participate in carnivals or school events such as assemblies. With the Student Leaders we have taken the approach “if you are served lemons, make lemonade!” It has been great to see the student leadership programs in action in the online assemblies with events and fundraisers. Next term we are looking at reintroducing activities such as Chess and Running Club as well as modified Interschool Sports events.

The P&C has also launched into action with a timetable of events for the remainder of the year, with a focus of getting the school community together, whilst continuing to follow guidelines with a can-do approach.

We are also looking for an interested parent to discuss potentially forming a grounds committee. The school is blessed with great gardens and planters for vegetables and herbs. It would be great for the community to be able to benefit from the produce that is unfortunately largely going to waste. Our Chaplain Jason is also keen to involve students at lunchtime and we see potential to have families enjoying the produce. Let me know if you would like to discuss joining a committee with an emphasis on volunteering and community.

As this is the last update for the term, I would like to shout out to all the staff for going above and beyond as Essential Workers and wish everyone a terrific holiday with family. It is great to hear that so many families are visiting relations over east and overseas after an extended period of not seeing each other. My tip for all the students is to stay in your pyjamas for as long as possible and read plenty of books.

I look forward to seeing everyone next term and hopefully mask free at some stage as my glasses continue to fog up.

Annual Report

The 2021 Annual Report is an analysis of the school performance last year and has been tabled and discussed with the School Board. Our intention is to review the format and timing of the document to coincide with the end of the school year in 2022.

2021 Annual Report to the Community

COVID

We have made an enormous effort to reduce the spread of Covid-19 at Richmond PS and I thank you for your support.

You may wish to access the children’s COVID-19 vaccines this school holidays. They are free and available for children aged 5 years and older.

The WA Chief Health Officer has encouraged all school principals to provide the following information to parents.

As we move into the school holidays, vaccination is the best thing you can do to keep your children and family safe while reducing the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Vaccination reduces the chances of children becoming infected and reduces the number and severity of symptoms if children do get infected.

Children may also be less likely to pass on the infection if they are vaccinated

Getting children vaccinated is being assisted through a range of convenient vaccine providers and additional pop-up clinic events during the April school holidays.

Easter Hat Parade

Our student counsellors will be running an Easter Hat Parade in each classroom tomorrow, Friday 8th April.

We apologise for the late notice but hope our students can get creative and we look forward to seeing your Easter inspired hats tomorrow.

Returning to school, Term 2

Students will return to school on Wednesday 27th April.

Years 4 to 6 and including the Year 3’s from Room 9 will commence their swimming lessons on their first day back at school so please remember to bring your goggles, bathers and towel.

Swimming lessons will start on Wednesday 27th April through to the Friday 6th May.
