The athletics carnival started with a fine day of jumps and throws on Monday.  Tomorrow the weather unfortunately looks less promising, but we will be going ahead with the main carnival and hope to see lots of supporters there.  Children will be outside all day so it may be a good idea for them to have a raincoat with them.  The program of events is on our website here: ATHLETICS PROGRAM

Because of the carnival, there will be no before-school running club tomorrow.

Our whole school music assembly on Friday was beautiful – so interesting to see pre-primary children singing a song, then year ones using AUSLAN and Noongar language, then year threes including a recorder and on to year five students selecting their own instrument and playing as an ensemble.  It really was a snapshot of what you can expect from pre-primary to year 6 and was impressive. Well done to Moyanne Bertolini who heads our wonderful music program.

It’s Jeans for Genes day across Australia this Friday, to raise money for genetic research.  We do try to support charity fundraising days where possible, and students are invited to wear jeans or denim on Friday and to bring a gold coin donation.

Our canteen manager position will become vacant at the end of the year. If you are interested in part-time work that suits school hours, please take the chance to speak to the current manager, Kate, or to volunteer in the canteen next term to see if the role may be for you in 2020.  The P&C will run a selection process during term 4.

We are still working through leases and AIR statements to finalise kindergarten applications for 2020. We have had over 70 applications, which is fantastic, and so I will be running three classes, all in our off-site centre.  The Monday / Tuesday class filled very quickly on a first come first served basis and we unfortunately couldn’t accommodate all requests for those days. The two Thursday / Friday classes are also nearly full, with all places reserved pending paperwork being provided.  Everyone who requested the Thursday / Friday class has been accommodated. The classes will be balanced by gender, age, special needs and sibling order and it won’t be possible to accommodate parent requests for specific teachers.

If you did request the Monday / Tuesday class, but are flexible and happy to swap to Thursday / Friday, it’d be fantastic if you could tell Lara, so that we can finalise days for everyone.

Finally, NAPLAN reports are being mailed home to parents of year 3 and 5 students this week. There is a lot of information on the back of each report relating to student progress, and this is a useful link to FAQ: NAPLAN FAQ

Enjoy the carnival tomorrow,

Lisa Dentith
