Blog 21 February 2019

Following my catch up with former Richmond student Lucy Clements at the weekend (see Facebook), I have added an ‘alumni’ section to our website. It is under the Parents and Community tab. If you know of a former student who is doing something interesting, perhaps you would consider nominating them on the online form.  As we approach our centenary, I think it will be fascinating to find out about our Richmond PS alumni.

All classes are introducing a new program in health this year. ‘Zones of Regulation’ helps children to develop strategies to manage their feelings and to self-regulate. Search online for Zones of Regulation for more information if you would like to follow the strategies at home to reinforce what we are using at school.

This fortnight, senior students are at swimming lessons every afternoon. The last day of swimming lessons, Friday 1st March, will be used for time trials for our upcoming swimming carnival.  Senior students (year 4-6) will have an opportunity to be timed in freestyle, breast stroke and backstroke over a 50m distance.  If your child is not able to attend the time trials, but wishes to be placed into a swimming event at our carnival please contact Mr Carder to make alternative arrangements.

After swimming ends, we will recommence running club on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8.10am – 8.30am. The first day will be Wednesday 6 March, following the long weekend.  Anyone may join by simply coming along to the oval. Parents are welcome to stay.

The P&C held its AGM this week.  The elected executive committee members for 2019 are: Paula Sowden (President), Chris Brown (Treasurer), Claire Terry (secretary), Justin Grant, Helen Barratt, Tony Estrano, Lisa Walsh (committee members). I am automatically on the committee.  Thank you for everyone’s continued commitment. There are lots of plans for community events in 2019.

The P&C Dads of Richmond Kids annual camp out on the oval has been changed by the organisers to the night of Saturday 16 March following requests from parents (it is easier for dads to get there on a Saturday).  Children are welcome to attend the camp with a father figure. Details will follow, including how to register online.

Thanks to everyone who has supported our P&C fundraising through Gilbert’s Fresh by using their loyalty card.

The School Board will hold its AGM on Tuesday 5 March after school in the library.  Please be encouraged to nominate if you have an interest.  For more information about the board, please see the School Board section of our school website under the Our School tab.
