Blog 6 November 2019

Tomorrow, at 10.15am, the Minister will officially open our new building at a short ceremony, where the chorale will sing. It will be lovely, and so important for students to experience these formal occasions. Everyone is very welcome to come to hear her speak.  We have gained a spacious new foyer with improved security, a meeting room, medical room, new offices and more storage. A number of politicians and local councillors will also be here.

Also tomorrow, students will get the chance to see elite athletes in action, as a number of Indoor Volleyball State representatives from WA Steel will be here, running a jump competition.

Yesterday, a film crew visited to make an advert. It was such an invaluable opportunity for students to see this process in action. The ad will be shown widely including at the upcoming KISS concert and I’ve posted a photo of the filming on Facebook.

The annual P&C movie night on the oval is on Friday 22 November. Families will be able to buy a family movie pass for $15 from TidyHQ and are invited to bring a picnic from 6.00pm. The pizza oven will be cranked up and the movie will start when it gets dark. Students are voting on the movie this week and I’ll have more information in my next blog.

Last year, early childhood teacher Michelle Gorringe and I started to talk about redeveloping and upgrading the space outside the pre-primary into a more nature-based and child-centered zone, and linking it to our centenary celebrations. Michelle researched early play and consulted with parents, children and staff to come up with a file full of ideas, best practice and current thinking. Matt from Phase 3, who is a Richmond parent, volunteered to create a concept drawing.  The P&C has this year been fundraising for this project, with a group led by Chris and Amy, and is currently seeking grants. Thank you to all involved to this point. The concept plan will come to life in stages as funding becomes available.

Meanwhile our business manager, Elaine, continues to work on the development around the climbing frame. The Department has provided the new soft fall and we will plant the area with trees and shrubs shortly.

WACSSO has written a new constitution (also known as Rules of Association) for P&Cs.  This is a set of rules that a P&C must abide by.  The new constitution has to be adopted ASAP and our P&C is calling a Special General Meeting for next Wednesday 13 November, at 3.10pm in room 13 to discuss and adopt it.  Please come along – and read about it beforehand here: 2019 P&C Constitution.

Finally, just a reminder to order your 2020 booklist here: booklists.ziggies.net.au using these codes… School code for home delivery: RICD       Password: ZZY233
