Volunteers Week

We are fortunate to have parents who volunteer at the school and to wider community groups. We see daily parents volunteering throughout the school and in the wider community with clubs. What sets Richmond apart from many other schools is that sense of community. The P&C generate significant funding for many of the school programs and organises events that reinforce the importance of community. The School Board also contributes with input on the strategic direction of the school and assists in developing policies that support the learning program.

Modelling is an important part of the education process as children observe parents giving back to the community and are more likely to volunteer in the future.

On this sunny Autumn Day, our volunteers were in force bringing in a steady stream of cakes and the DoRK’s manning the coffee machine. Our volunteers add the cherry on top of the Richmond cake and your efforts are valued.

Cyber Safety / e-safety

At this week’s School Board meeting the topic of e safety was discussed. Teachers regularly address the topic through the health curriculum and the necessary locks are put in place for any devices used at school.

The school also has a mobile phone policy (link). The policy outlines that if students bring a phone to school, they are required to drop them in at the office and pick them up after school. Smartwatches are also becoming popular, and they need to be put on flight mode/ school mode when students are at school.

We absolutely agree that schools play a part in educating students on the risks involved when accessing any technology. Students are reminded that a digital footprint can and will be tracked and the ongoing dangers associated with going online.

We only have the students for a short period of the day and it is critical that the message is supported at home and that all devices are monitored regularly.

I have attached a link for resources parents can access at home.

Friday Gardening Club

We will be starting up a Friday Gardening Club in conjunction with the P&C. There will be a junior group and senior group assisting Jason (Chaplain) and Mr Mack (principal) at lunch time on alternate weeks.  To make this a successful venture, we are asking interested parents if they can assist us.  If you can help, please email Mr Mack.  dale.mackesey@education.wa.edu.au

School Photos

The school photo orders should have come home this week. Please note the following:

  • Magnetic photo frames and additional prints are slotted between the prints of your package.
  • Key chains are packed separately and distributed by the school office to the classroom teachers, who then distribute them to the students. Check with your teacher if you have not received yours as yet.
  • Sibling photos (if applicable to your school) are delivered to the eldest child and placed inside their photo package as additional prints if applicable.
  • Digital negative orders will be sent to your email address supplied within 3-5 days of the school photo delivery. Don’t forget to check your junk mail folders.
  • You are still able to place additional orders via the Kapture website including orders for sports, music or special group photos taken on school photo day. Use the same school code as previously supplied.

If you ordered photos more than 10 days after photo day, your order will be handled separately and mailed directly to your home address within the next 28 days. Check your confirmation email for more information.

Kind regards

The Kapture Crew

The season of Djeran brings with it cooler nights, light breezes and the presence of dew on the plants in the early mornings.

Djeran is a time of red flowers, especially from the Red Flowering Gum (Corimbia ficifolia), as well as the more petite flowers of the Summer Flame (Beaufortia aestiva). Traditionally this was the time of year to nourish and prepare the body for the cold of Makuru. Fish is an important food source, along with seeds and bulbs
