Kaya and it is timely that with the start of August we are in the season of Djilba with the warming of the land (and old Principals) and the start of the water animals and plant cycles. We are also planning all things athletics with the track marked and the website updated with all the carnival dates.
School Board
The School Board met on Wednesday. We now have Sophie Godkin who has joined the team. Sophie has a background in education and will be a valuable addition. The Board will be looking at developing a Communication Policy with consultation with members of the P&C. We would also like to advertise the Parent Evening on the Wednesday 16th August which will look at the new Strategic Plan as well as how the school is using data streams to support school planning. It would be great to see as many parents as possible who can attend the session.
Cross Country
Thanks to Mr Thorogood for taking the team to Interschool and State Cross Country this week. Our students all competed well, and Richmond earned the Meritorious Trophy. Most of the students competing also participate in the Running Club on Wednesdays and Fridays with their ongoing training paying off.
A busy week for our cross country squad with both the local interschool competition and the School Sport WA Primary Cross Country championships.
A large number of the squad have been regularly turning up to either one or both our running clubs throughout the year. By committing to these clubs the students have improved their fitness and endurance and it was no surprise that we had some fantastic results.
New students are welcome to join our sessions on a Tuesday (Marathon Club) and Friday (Just for Run) but we do ask you to complete the permission form that can be found online or the front office.
Richmond finished 4th overall in the local interschool carnival and winners of the meritorious shield which is based on school population.
Students who medalled were:
Ella finished 1st in year 4 girls.
Emmi 2nd in year 6 girls.
Cillian 3rd in year 6 boys.
At the School Sport WA Primary Cross Country Championships our students one again should be proud of their achievements.
Orla – 23nd of 259 competitors in year 3 girls
Ella – 17th of 332 competitors in year 4 girls
Emmi – 37th of 367 competitors in year 6 girls
Cillian – 48th of 250 competitors in year 6 boys
Lastly – we wish our Richmond Open Football (as in the world game) team the best of luck in their quarter final (and possibly semi/final) on Friday night at 4.45pm at Aubin Grove Community oval.
Tea Towel Fundraiser
I have had many parents comment on the quality of the P&C Tea Towel fundraiser. Thanks go out to Mrs Driscoll who with the P&C have championed the fundraiser, with further orders being made for the perfect gift (especially for Father’s Day)
A reminder that Art Tea Towels are available to order via QuickCliQ under the ‘Events’ tab.
You will need to sign up or have an account with QuickCliQ.

Tea Towels are printed with your child’s artwork and are available for $20.00 each.
A copy of your child’s artwork was sent home during Term 2.
Ordering closes at the end of the day on Thursday 10 August.
Richmond’s War Against Waste
We certainly have made a great start and would love to have pictures showing our families recycling for future newsletters. Connor from the Town of East Fremantle is onboard and will be visiting classes to discuss recycling and we are again looking at the FOGO system for canteen waste with Ros at ways to reduce packaging in the future. The ABC show War Against Waste is recommended viewing for families as it highlights the challenges we face in the wider community.

Gardening Club
With the start of Djilba it is a perfect time to commence the Gardening Club on Fridays between 1.00 and 2.00pm. Next week, Friday 11th August students and interested volunteers will be weeding the existing beds ready for planting soon. The P&C have also obtained sponsorship from Bunnings and is also supporting the project.
If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact Kate Ecclestone (0408 956 930) or Dale at school as the more the merrier!
