I note that many families have taken the opportunity to take a break with family over the next four days. Hopefully, the weather will be kind if you are heading down south. We are taking this opportunity to send out the newsletter on a Thursday. After feedback from Parent Reps, communications will generally be sent on a Friday with a larger newsletter sent out fortnightly.

Bravo
Congratulations to all students who performed and entered the ITALO WA Primary Students Competition with a special mention to Isla Ross (Year 1) who was selected as the overall winner in Year 1. Our thanks also go out to Signora Blanchard for entering the students and supporting the students with their entries.
Interschool Carnival
Selected Yr 5/6 students competed magnificently last Friday in the Interschool Carnival. The feedback from both students and staff was positive about all aspects of the day and I thank Mr Thorogood. The feedback from the staff involved was that all our students represented the school’s values and were very competitive in all sports.
Winter Ailments
Every day this week, we have received multiple new notifications of COVID, Influenza A and Influenza B in our school community. Thankfully, reports of gastro have significantly reduced.
Reconciliation Action Week
This week, classes from Kindergarten to Yr 6 have recognised Reconciliation Action Week with discussions and activities.
Students have been learning about the 1967 referendum; they’ve looked at language group maps, learnt about special places such as Uluru and have read, retold and rewritten Dreamtime stories. Students have also created some colourful bunting using Dreamtime stories for inspiration whilst others have being learning about some of our well known Aboriginal identities.
MAKURU JUNE — JULY
Season of Fertility
Makuru is the season that brings the first heavy rains and sees the Scarlett banksia in bloom. Fire is very important during this season, a useful resource for food preparation and production, tool and artefact production, hunting and driving game, and for warmth and signalling. Fattier red-meat animals such as the yonga (kangaroo) and weitj (emu) are hunted at this time of year.
