Newsletter Term 3 Week 10

It has been another busy term at Richmond with many highlights through a cold and wet Winter with plenty of associated illnesses of both students and staff. My thanks go out to staff and our wonderful volunteers for their collective efforts. Enjoy the break and we look forward to an action-packed race to December.

Farewell

Today is the is the final Mrs Lara Carter will be at the front desk at Richmond before her tree change down south. Lara has been the calming, professional and caring face at Richmond. On behalf of the School Community, I would like to acknowledge her service, commitment, and empathy and wish her all the best in the next chapter of her journey. She will be missed.

From the School Board

You may have heard – our beloved administrator Lara Carter is leaving Richmond. Lara has been the first port of call for late kids, sick kids, hurt kids and lost parents for many years at Richmond. As the “face of the school” Lara’s departure will, I know, be sorely felt by all kids and parents alike. Lara is not only leaving the school but leaving the city to pursue a new life in the country. On behalf of the School Board, I would like to thank Lara for her dedication and commitment to the school and wish her all the best as she settles into life in the country. Thanks Lara.

Matthew Rose,

Board Chair

As most people probably know, Mrs Carter is leaving the school at the end of the term. Her leaving will be a great loss to Richmond as she practically runs the school, and she will be greatly missed. She is excited to be going to a farm in Denmark with her husband where there will be alpacas, goats, chickens, and many kangaroos on the farm. All in all, Mrs Carter is very sad to be leaving and says her 13 years at Richmond where the most enjoyable in her career. Even though she is going to miss Richmond and all its students, parents, staff, and volunteers she says that the lost property is one thing she is happy to leave behind. A little-known fact is that for a few years she worked as an education assistant until moving to her role in the office. Thank-you for everything you have done for us in your time here and we wish you the best of luck in Denmark!

HI…FROM THE P&C

Thank you so very much to Nicky Sumner who has been the amazing parent organiser of Lara’s card & gift from our parent community!

Lara has been the rock (or as my daughter says the Mum) of Richmond Primary School for the past 10+ years. Your beautiful words & gifts (& there are so many gifts!) mean so very much to Lara…thank you!

Thank you to Kate Ecclestone for volunteering her time with the Gardening Club. Today the Gardening Club have harvested the first of our crop – lettuce. We hope that you enjoy having some truly fresh produce to enjoy!

Also, the P&C are holding the Richmond Primary School/Bunnings Sausage Sizzle tomorrow at Bunnings Melville…come along, say hi & buy a snizzle in support of your school!

Gwenyth Ewens Art Award Ceremony and Exhibition

Parents and school communities attended an awards ceremony last night announcing primary school student winners for the Gwenyth Ewens Art Award.

Gwenyth Ewens (1916 – 1995) a trailblazing architect and proud Fremantle identity made a bequest to the City of Fremantle in 1987 to promote the appreciation of Fremantle’s beautiful buildings through an art competition for local children. The inaugural competition took place in 1989 and has been running annually ever since.

Congratulations to Lucas, Stella, and Sasha for representing Richmond Primary School and winning the Certificate of Recognition Award.

The Awards Ceremony was hosted by historian, lecturer and broadcaster, Richard Offen. Students’ art will continue to be on display in the Fremantle Town Hall for public view from Friday 22 September to Sunday 8 October 10am – 2pm.

Busy Bee

It was wonderful to return to work on Monday to see the results of the Busy Bee which focussed on tidying up the Osborne Rd frontage of the school. The well attended event, which included our students managed to fill up a big skip bin and bring a big smile to our gardener Denise.

Athletics Carnival

Last Friday we had our athletics carnival. The day was very successful, and everyone had a good time. We were lucky that the weather was mostly good. It was the Year 6’s last athletics carnival and the Year 6 parents ran a wonderful cake stall to raise money for the graduation. Some made savoury food and others made cakes, biscuits, ice-cream and loads more. There were over 400 sausages cooked!

All the races were tight and exciting to watch.  The overall scores were close, but Fraser won the overall shield.

To all the parents and teachers that helped we much appreciate your efforts. Special thanks to Mr Carder and Mr Thorogood for the amazing work that they did in making sure the day ran smoothly.
