Newsletter Term 3 Week 4

There is a buzz around the school with the Matilda’s carrying the hopes of our Nation on Saturday. It has been great to hear of many families taking the opportunity to go and enjoy games in Perth. You can see the flow on in the playground with soccer becoming the sport of choice for both boys and girls. Hopefully, we will all be celebrating on Sunday. It is timely as both our AFL sides are not setting the world on fire with results this year!

Parent Information Evening 16th August

We would like to invite you to the Parent Information Evening on Wednesday 16th August which will look at the new Strategic Plan as well as how the school is using data streams to support school planning. It would be great to see as many parents as possible who can attend the session.

Racism No Way

As part of the development of Richmond Reconciliation Action Plan, the staff looked at a website About Racism | Racism No Way which has some resources that will be used within the classes. If you have some spare time have a look at the site as it has some information for parents.

Students on School Grounds

I have spoken to the students this week about not accessing the school grounds without an adult on the weekends. Unfortunately, we have had some anti-social behaviour and vandalism to the property over the past month caused by older children. I did reinforce that families are encouraged to use the grounds after hours. If you do see anti-social behaviour occurring when you are here, do not hesitate calling Education Department Security on 9264 4632.

Book Week

The Book Week Parade will be happening first thing Wednesday August 23rd in the Undercover Area to avoid a clash with the planned assembly on Friday. The theme for Book Week this year is Read Grow and Inspire.

Gardening Club

Big thanks to Katie Ecclestone and the volunteers who worked with students interested in participating in Gardening Club.

Aussie of the Month

It is with great pleasure that we announce the July and August Aussie of the Month awards.

Emmi K was nominated by Mr Thorogood for displaying our school values during recent cross country and our school football championships. She supported team mates throughout, attended all training sessions and took on feedback. Congratulations.

Our August Aussie of the Month winner was nominated by Mrs Driscoll.

Congratulations Shayla. Shayla displays a positive energy and has made both new staff and students feel welcome. She is respectful and responsible and offers help without being asked. She makes people feel valued.

Town of East Fremantle Bin Posters

Thanks to Azita and Mrs Driscoll for working with a committed group of students after school to design posters, which will soon be on bins around our community.

War Against Waste

Richmond’s War Against Waste has significantly reduced the rubbish around the grounds with the canteen waste to be focus on by the Environmental Leaders. We are also keen to have family snaps of students and families recycling at home for upcoming newsletters so send in family snaps that may feature in upcoming newsletters.

Buzz Ed Bee Incursion

The Year One classes, and a few Pre-primaries from Room 2, enjoyed a visit by Luke from Buzz Ed Bee Australia. Luke has been keeping bees in his backyard since he was a young boy and we learnt so many interesting facts about queen bees, drones and worker bees, a bee’s lifecycle and how to rob a hive of its extra honey. The children then made their own peg bees and tasted some of the honey from Luke’s hives.
