Newsletter Term 4 Week 2

This week commenced of our bike safety program which has been championed by Mrs. Sorrell and Mr. Thorogood who both obtained their Bike Educators Instructors certification earlier this year. This program is specifically tailored for our Year 4 students.

The bike safety program is an integral part of our Health and Physical Education curriculum. With an increasing number of students riding or scooting to school each day, ensuring their safety on the road is a priority. The increase of electric bikes and scooters with more cars on the road reinforces the ongoing need for bike safety education.

One highlight of the program is a planned bike ride into Fremantle later this term. This practical experience will allow students to apply what they have learned and gain confidence in navigating the streets safely. The excursion will also include a tour of the Fremantle prison and the mandatory fish and chips on Fisherman’s Wharf. I know that Mr Carder is keen to dust off his bike and join the excursion to enjoy the fish and chips.

As part of the program, we partnered with West Cycle mechanics to offer bike servicing. Over 30 students had their bikes serviced, which will ensure they are road worthy as is advised for all families in the future.

The bike safety program is a permanent part of our curriculum, and we consider it as important as our annual swimming lessons, which are also held throughout the term.

Citizenship Badges & Pictures

Last week the Student Councillors launched a program open to all students to gain badges for volunteering 10 hours of community service. Many of our family’s volunteer time and give back to the community and the program is designed for students in any year who volunteer (with appropriate permission and supervision). A log is included in the brochure, and we envisage that students can build up to the hours over a period of time with parents signing off on the log.

The program was developed by the Student Councillors and supports our values program running at the school. Please find attached a copy of the brochure and feel free to contact me if you would like any further information.

Student Council Messages

Wacky Hair Day

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On the 17th of November the Student Councillors will be hosting Wacky Hair Day to raise money for the charity called Save The Children. We are proudly doing this to help with the children across the world that don’t have rights and are not allowed to have a say in their actions. We researched this charity and found it is a good fundraiser to raise money for. This is purely because we were looking for a charity that can help children to feel comfortable about what they say. Please bring a gold coin donation on the 17th of November and have fun at school with your wacky hair.

Thankyou
