School Volunteers – Reminder

School volunteers are vital to the running of programs and events at Richmond Primary School.

We are very fortunate to have so many members of the community donating their time to make our school such a great place.

The Working with Children (Screen) Act 2004  was designed to ensure the safety and to minimise the risk of harm to students.

The ACT requires employees and non-employees to undergo Working with Children Checks.

There has been recent reforms to strengthen the Working with Children Check legislation.

Please note that parent and children volunteers do not require a WWC check but they must complete a declaration form when signing in at administration.

All other volunteers now require a WWC Card. This includes relatives such as grand parents, Aunts, Uncles, etc.

Thank you for your understanding.

Examples of volunteering

A parent is volunteering and eligible for an exemption when:

  • helping with reading
  • attending a day excursion
  • on canteen duty
  • assisting at a sports carnival
