Welcome back to term 4, which looks like being busy and productive as always.

Our first news is that the canteen is moving to on-line ordering! This has been in the planning for quite a while and thanks are due to Paula and Kate for getting this in place. The attached flyer provides details of how to order.   The canteen is looking for volunteers for Fridays– please call Lara on 9339 5055.

The first P&C event of the term is a big breakfast on Friday 19 October (next week) from 7.30am in the quad.  Everyone is warmly invited. No need to book, just turn up and pay as you eat.  Please could you bring change.

The popular P&C DoRKS billy cart race, the Richmond Cup, will be held on Sunday 4 November, which is the fourth weekend this term. The attached flyer contains details.

Due to increasing intruders and damage on the school grounds at weekends and in holidays, we installed cctv to run out of school hours. This has worked well in the holidays, with no damage or intruders reported.

We are going to participate in Outdoor Classroom Day on 1 November. If any parents are interested in helping, thank you, please speak to teachers.

Our waste audit last term was very positive and also produced some directions for us to focus on.  The main results were (annually):

Positive:

  • 1774kg of fruit and veg scraps is going into our worm farm.
  • Overall waste is low: Single use plastic waste 1%, paper 1%, Tetra paks, cartons plastic bags 0%, chip wrappers 4%

To work on:

  • 700kg of fruit and veg waste is still going into waste bins
  • 20% of our waste is whole packaged food (lunches)
  • 6% of our waste is whole fruits (lunches)

We will be looking at why some children are throwing their whole lunches away, and seek parent support in talking to their children about this – thank you. Hope to see everyone at the breakfast next week.
