Kaya to an exciting new year at Richmond Primary, and a special welcome to all the new families who have joined the School Community.
It was great to see all the students skipping into school yesterday with the latest haircuts and new shoes. Our students have grown tall and many looking very tanned after a summer by the beach or various holiday destinations all over the world. It was also nice to see our parents, grandparents and caregivers, many laden down with school bags and supplies; we did see many happy adults leaving the grounds for a well-deserved cup of coffee at 9:00am. It certainly is very different from the start of last year when we had COVID restrictions and masks in place.
Our priority over the next week is updating the website with dates for the year and streamline communications from the school. Currently, the school uses a mix of Principal Updates on the website, CO notifications and Facebook for general information going out to families.
Teachers will confirm dates for Parent Information Sessions over the next week and will send out information in relation to curriculum focus areas for first term. I will be scheduling Information Sessions for Class Reps and any interested parents in Week 4, with dates and times to follow next week. I am keen to discuss opportunities for parents to be involved with the school throughout the year.
School Board elections and the P&C play an important part in the direction of the school, and an open meeting of the School Board will be held on Wednesday, 15th February at 7.00pm.
The P&C is also looking for new members due to many of our previous members leaving Richmond P.S as their children started high school this year. There are many ways in which parents can get involved, and community involvement sets Richmond apart from many schools; volunteering is rewarding as well as great modelling for our children. I am happy for parents to contact me or grab me in the playground before or after school if you are keen to find out how you can be involved.
We have welcomed four new staff members to the Richmond Team

School Board Information
Parents, it’s time to get your nominations in for the school board!
We will put up a video of our current Chair Lacey Filipich on our school Facebook page. Lacey explains in the video how the board helps with governance. Each year, the seven parent spots are declared vacant at the annual public meeting (APM) and the board appoint the new year’s parent reps. If there are more than seven nominations, we conduct a parent vote following the meeting.
If you’d like to nominate (including 2022 board members) please complete this form: https://richmondps.wa.edu.au/parents-community/school-board-nomination-form/ and plan to attend the APM on the evening of Wednesday 15 February. Time and location will be confirmed via Connect.
If you have any questions, please chat with one of the current members of the school board to learn more. You’ll find them listed on this information page: https://richmondps.wa.edu.au/parents-community/school-board/ Thank you.
Crossing Guard Canning Hwy
The School Board is following up on the lack of a Crossing Guard on Canning Hwy due to staff shortages across the entire metropolitan area. We have been informed that the crossing will not have a guard until later in April, which is disappointing. Any updates will be communicated at the earliest convenience.
WA Police have a recruitment drive for more crossing guards. Please look at the following link for more information Traffic Wardens | Western Australia Police Force or email Childrenscrossingsunitsmail@police.wa.gov.au
PLEASE NOTE: It is highly desirable for applicants to have a current WA driver’s licence and use of a motorised vehicle. Applicants will be required to complete a health assessment, integrity and criminal check, training and if successful, will also be required to apply for a ‘Working with Children’ card*.
Gifted & Talented: Closing day Sunday 12th February 2023.

Peer Support Team
Richmond Primary school is a Sun Smart school, which means protecting yourself from the sun. If you have forgotten your hat, we will help students find the ‘No hat, No play’ area, or assist them in looking for their lost property. Wearing a hat and applying sunscreen is important when participating in outdoor sports and activities. If you haven’t been able to get a school hat or have lost your hat, bring in a spare wide-brimmed hat from home.

Recycled Uniforms
Our stock of recycled uniforms has become somewhat depleted.
If you have any items that are too small or not used, please consider donating them to the school.
Items in the uniform shop are available to be bought for gold coin donations, all proceeds going to the P&C. We do have some new yellow hats available (previous bucket style) for purchase, these are $11.00 each.
Lost Property
There are already several unlabelled items in the lost property box. Please could you ensure all lunch containers, drink bottles, shoes and uniform items be named, this enables items to be found and returned in a timely manner.
