The term has started with swimming and NAPLAN testing dominating the first two weeks. I was happy to receive positive feedback from the Swimming Teachers about the behaviour of all the students who participated.

Moort – (Family)
Stories and a strong connection to country are passed down through family. Moorts includes anyone who we hold a strong bond with.
Premiers Reading Challenge
The Premier has relaunched the Premier’s Reading Challenge with the theme this year ‘Reading can take you anywhere.’
The challenge is to read 12 books over the period of the challenge and I would encourage all Richmond Families to get on board.
Information can be found on the following website Home – Premier’s Reading Challenge (premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au) and we would love to hear from families about the progress.
NAPLAN
The testing has commenced for Year 3 & 5 students with the majority of testing online. The test information will be sent home and will be used to inform school review and planning. With the current high case load and associated absenteeism, it has been a challenge.
NAPLAN is one data source that the school uses and is triangulated with teacher judgement and other standardised tests conducted throughout the year. As I mentioned to a group of students the other day it is a point of time test (a photo not a photo album).
Interschool Sport
Interschool events have started with our Year 5/6 Girls competing last Friday at the Samantha Kerr Southern Region Primary Football (Soccer) Championships.
We are proud to announce that the girls won the School Sports WA, Girls Champions Cup Fair Play Award and that our Team A have progressed to the finals which will be played this Friday after school. Congratulation girls and good luck on Friday.
Construction Windsor Road
There will be an additional 5 car bays installed on Windsor Rd which completes the associated work of installing the transportable classroom. Local residences have been informed and the work should take around a month to complete. We have been assured disruption will be minimised.
Walk Safely to School Day
Our House Captains will be encouraging students and the community to walk to school on Friday 20 May.
Given I live in Wembley I may have to leave home at 4.30 am!
Assemblies
Assemblies will also commence this Friday with the Student Leaders discussing planned events for the term and a performance by the choir. Parents are welcome to attend, especially to see students receive merit certificates.
Message from the P&C
Welcome back to term 2! It was a wonderful start to the term to be able to attend the Anzac Ceremony and to have the Mother’s Day Café last Friday. We are really keen to make up for lost time with some family events lined up for this term. Please jot them down and hope to see you there.
Firstly school assemblies are set to restart, so with that a reminder that cake stalls can be run again. Just a reminder to check when your class/year is holding assembly. First up will be year 1 on May 27th. The DoRKs are happy to run their spectacular café, so pop by for coffee and cake.

Message from the Environment Team by Asha
The environment team will continue to run the second hand uniform shop. Last week at the Mother’s Day coffee morning we raised $53.00.
We have also been doing rubbish audits regularly and by the end of the year we are hoping to be a totally waste free school, this means we take our rubbish home!
Lunchtime Sports Club – A message from the Sports Captains
In week 4 the Sports Captains will be hosting a lunchtime sports club on Wednesdays and Fridays. We are doing this for kids to have fun and learn a new sport. There are sign up sheets around the school. We hope that the students will come and join us.
After the students eat their lunch, they can come and meet us on the oval.
Thank you!
