We’ve had another wonderful week at Richmond Primary School. Many of our students had a lot of fun making ‘snowballs’ out of hail and making tiny snowmen. It really is great watching our young people experience the joys of playing in nature, although the inevitable wet socks and soggy shoes have probably been an issue for some parents. Today, we’ve all enjoyed being able to be out in the warmer weather. Our Pre primary students made boats and had a great time racing them in the stream. We’re now halfway through Term 3 and are still experiencing a large number of staff and student absences, this is mainly due to the various winter bugs going around. We ask that you keep your child/children home if they are displaying symptoms of being unwell with gastro or respiratory type illnesses, anything that is likely to be spread to others. With Spring just around the corner, hay fever and asthma season has started with a vengeance. Some of our children are already symptomatic. We are happy to administer any medication (not expired) you provide, as long as you have completed an ‘Administration of Medication’ form (click here) and the packaging of the medication is clearly marked with your child’s name. We will always call before giving your child medication.
Science Week
Over the past few days, we had a head start on Science Week. Students have been participating in additional activities which recognise the importance of science in helping solve some of the complex problems that we experience now or will face in the future. One of the highlights has been the Moon Buggy Challenge organised by Mr Townsend, Mr Carder and the Student Councillors. Students from Pre-primary to Year 6 showcased their engineering and artistic traits with impressive and creative designs.
Noongar Word of the Fortnight
Yongka means Kangaroo
Pronunciation “Yong-gu”
For tens of thousands of years, Indigenous Australians hunted kangaroo when necessary for survival. One thing they have never practiced or condoned is culling or mass slaughter. The skin of the kangaroo can be used for clothing and cladding of a mi amia (hut). The skin can also be made into bags for transporting bush tucker.

Unnamed Lost Property
Mrs Sachman and our Student Councillors are doing a great job sorting lost property. Students are slowly getting the message that they need to look after their things and Mr Mack has spoken to several students today about the importance in taking care of personal belongings. They may speak with you about this. Unfortunately the battle continues with many unnamed items turning up in lost property. Please could you ensure your child’s uniform and non uniform items that come to school are clearly named.
Recycled Uniforms
We are keen for donations of all uniform items, especially school fleeces, house tee shirts and blue hats. If you have any items that you’d like to donate, please drop them off at the office.
Rapid Antigen Tests
We have received another large delivery of RAT’s (nasal swabs) for distribution to all families. A desk will be set up outside before and after school in the quad for parents/carers to pick up as many RAT’s as required.
Student Movement 2023
We have started the process of looking at possible class structures for 2023. Part of this process is to find out if any students are relocating next year. Please could you call or email Lara – lara.carter@education.wa.edu.au if your child will not be attending Richmond PS next year or if you are undecided. If emailing, please could you also include the school (if known) where your child will be attending next year.
